With sadness, we say goodbye to long-term SAR Board member Hugh MacPherson, who died peacefully surrounded by family at his home in the U.K. on August 20, 2020. Hugh was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, and while he knew he had only a few months to live, he was given an opportunity that not many have – that of knowing how many lives he impacted so profoundly. Prior to his passing, his friends and colleagues at Northern College of Acupuncture created a tribute book, which he enjoyed reading cover to cover. He was also awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award by SAR, in addition to a video tribute. The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine published a “living tribute,” which Hugh had the opportunity to read. Hugh was known to be modest, yet these tributes are all testaments to how his work and friendship was so highly valued in the field of acupuncture research.
